Phone: 740-513-1550 | Email: Adjutant@ohiolegion.com

John, or JD as he is called by his comrades, is a 10-year member of the Ohio American Legion Belle Valley Post 641. He earned his eligibility for the Legion through his service in the United States Air Force from 1994-1996. JD served as a Law Enforcement Officer in Spangdhlem, Germany until an ill-fated cancer diagnosis cut his tour short and sent him home. JD’s father, who received two purple hearts in Vietnam, taught him to serve his country in good form. Due to his father’s brave service, JD has also been privileged to serve his belonging Post’s Sons of the American Legion Squadron for the past 9 years.

In 1997, JD began his career at Heating & Cooling Products in Byesville, Ohio. He served as the Shipping Supervisor there for the next 24 years while raising two daughters, Samantha and Jaden, along with the expert care of his wife, Jacie. JD continued to serve his community by coaching soccer and track as well as serving as a Volunteer Firefighter.

JD joined the American Legion in 2014, and the Sons of the American Legion in 2015 – quickly realizing that his service to his country did not conclude at the end of his active duty in 1996. Holding office at every level from Post, District, and now Department, JD strives to serve veterans, especially his fellow Legionnaires in all aspects of Post enlistment from camaraderie to PTSD support and treatment.  He encourages all to join The American Legion’s ‘Be the One’ campaign.

In 2021, JD decided to transition his career to The American Legion full-time and accepted a position as Membership and Post Activities Coordinator as well as Assistant Adjutant. His professional achievements did not stop there. After just a year and a half with Department, he was named Interim Adjutant and then shortly after, Executive Director/Department Adjutant in October of 2022. JD hopes to grow the organization through innovation and attract next-generation veterans to become Legionnaires that served in Afghanistan and Iraq.
