It is hard to believe that this will be my last SALute article as your Detachment Commander. I would like to say THANK YOU to everyone for their hard work over this past year, but we are not done yet!! In the next few weeks, our Squadrons should be receiving their consolidated reports. I am asking that every Squadron and District fill out those consolidated reports and get them mailed into Department. These reports show not only the Detachment but also National HQ what our members are doing for The American Legion and its programs. We all know we do a great job raising money and donating our time, so please fill out those reports and show what we all do for our veterans.
I had the honor and privilege of attending the Washington Conference in Washington DC. I placed our Detachment wreath at the Vietnam Memorial Wall in honor of my father and for those men and women that did not come home from Vietnam. It was truly a humbling experience. I did sit in on some committee meetings while in Washington DC, and was proud to see the whole Legion Family at the conference and supporting our veterans. We, as Sons, need to be proactive and make sure that our veterans know that we are there for them. We need to reach out to our state and federal representatives on issues that concern our men and women that are serving and that have served. We owe it to them!!
I am looking forward to seeing everyone in Marietta, for our state convention. Make sure you make your room reservations with the hotel directly. All the information about the convention is on our Detachment website or on our Facebook page. Hope to see you all there!!
God, bless you all and God bless this country!!!
Dan Finnell, Detachment Commander
