Happy Holidays to all of the American Legion Department of Ohio Family! During this festive time of the year I would like to remind each of you to remember those Veterans who are deployed, as well as, their families. In today’s world each of our communities are touched by men and women in uniform who have volunteered their service to protect our freedoms.
Congratulations to the “Fabulous 4th District” for its membership initiative and winning the “Big Brown Jug Award,” and thank you to all of our Posts, which have achieved quota. It is now time to turn our attention to the non-renewals and work those memberships so that we can meet our goals at Post, District, and Department levels.
Start making your plans now to attend the Mid-Winter Conference to be held January 19 thru 22. This will be an opportunity for your new officers to learn about our organization and its purpose. Please check the schedule for this year’s event. National Commander Charles Schmidt will be in attendance and there will be a dinner on Saturday evening giving our Legion Family a chance to get to know our National Commander.
As we wind down the 2016 year and head into 2017, keep in mind that the world will be remembering the start of the “Great War,” WWl, one hundred years ago and those doughboys who served America during the war to end all wars. As we know it wasn’t the war to end all wars, but those who served became the founders of our American Legion. This is a wonderful opportunity for us as an organization to honor those who served in WWl, many who are the namesake’s of our local Posts, and later to springboard us into our own centennial celebration of The American Legion. This can be a great tool to educate our communities about the American Legion and our programs.
In closing I would like to once again thank all of you for the work you do for The American Legion and from Karen and I, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
