We have reached the half way point of our 2017 American Legion year. I have been able to visit our VA facilities in Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, Toledo, and the Veterans home in Sandusky and Georgetown. In the near future I hope to be able to tour the Chillicothe facility.
Our Mid-Winter conference is behind us and I hope that those of you who attended came away feeling as good as I did about that event. There were many changes in the format of the conference this year as compared to previous years and we hope to continue with training sessions and informational meetings that suit the needs of our Legionnaires. Your feedback is important to us so if you have not filled out a survey please do so. Let us know what you think!
We were pleased to have our National Commander Charles E. Schmidt with us for the Mid-Winter conference this year and he challenged each of us to bring a new member into the American Legion. We touch many lives as go through our daily routines, so ask some of your contacts if they are a member, let them know what do and let them know how they can benefit by belonging to this Great Organization. So far this year we have met all of our membership lap target percentages and at this writing that puts our Department at 84%. That means we need 8000 memberships before the March cutoff date. I will be traveling in the “Fighting Fifth District” during the Past Department Commanders Roundup in February with National Vice Commander Paul Martel and it is our hope that each District will respond with a positive membership turn-in. Hopefully we will reach our 92% at that time. CALL THOSE 2017 NON-RENEWALS then work 888’s. I know I speak for the 1st Vice Commander as well when I say that revitalizations work. I was able to participate in the 10th District revitalization and saw it work first hand. Remember each of us are responsible for membership. Together we can ”Grow the Family”.
